About Jamie
Born 1975 and diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at a young age, Jamie faced doubt
from professionals and family. Although he was told he'd be lucky if he was
able to walk, Jamie refused to accept that he was less capable than anyone else.
"I was always told. 'Don't get your hopes up' and that I was different, but I
never believed that different meant I wasn't less capable, I just hadn't found a
way yet."
Jamie learned to walk by age 4, "After seeing my younger sister take her
first steps, I knew I wasn't going to let her walk before I could!" After 6
surgeries by age 11, Jamie had learned to ride a bike, ski, and swim. "My
motivation was that I wanted to be considered equal to all peers, if I saw my
friends having fun playing baseball or riding a skateboard, I wanted that
too!"
At 16, Jamie earned his Driver’s License, and by 18 had completed a motorcycle riding course.
"There was one instructor that believed I could do it. Even after a Doctor told me I couldn't, I told the Doctor he was wrong!"
In 2013, Jamie walked and completed the 10 Kilometre Vancouver Sun Run.
In 2016 Jamie became a certified scuba diver
